After a 28-0 loss to Marriotts Ridge last week, the Golden Bears are looking to bounce back tonight as they play the Mt. Hebron Vikings at 7:00 on Hammond’s home turf.
The players expressed a positive attitude about getting the season back on track. Linebacker Juan Mercedes said they need to work together as a team. Mercedes went on to say, “the whole team is bonding together and we’ve had a good week of practice.”
Right Guard Aaron Powell feels that the game tonight is “very winnable.” And he hopes it is a jump-start to what will eventually become their playoff run. Coming into the game the Vikings are 1-1 after a 21-14 win to a better Centennial team. This puts the Vikings in the hot seat and look for another win tonight as well.
Mt. Hebron finished their season last year with a record of 1-9 and had absolutely had no chance to make the playoffs. Hammond, on the other hand, had a 3-7 season under former head coach Justin Carey, now the head coach at Atholton. But Hammond’s new head coach Shawn Fredrick is certainly looking to turn around that record with new offensive and defensive schemes and a new coaching staff.
