Spirit week has concluded at Hammond and each and every grade put together another amazing showing. With an overarching theme of Childhood TV shows this year, Seniors chose Sesame Street. With the full grade support for their last and final spirit week, Seniors were ready to make it the best one yet. The Juniors chose The Peanuts for their theme, ready to plaster their hallway with nostalgic Snoopy and Charlie Brown movie scenes. The Sophomores chose Winnie the Pooh, preparing to transform their space into the warm and welcoming world we all know and love. And the new Freshman were ready to make their mark with the theme Care Bears.
In addition to class themes, spirit days were another crucial part of our. Starting on Wednesday, October 8th, we kicked off our countdown to Homecoming with the well loved classic of Wacky Tacky Day, but with a twist of anything but a backpack tacked on. Following that, we had Adam Sandler Day and DC vs. Marvel Day to finish off the first week of celebrations. The next Monday began with Duo’s Day, and Tuesday was Theme Day. Each grade is ready to embody their chosen theme to show school spirit. Wednesday, also known as PSAT day, was more laid back with White Lie Day. This is a switch from past years when it has historically been PJ Day, but SGA added a new twist this year! Thursday was Color Day and Pep Rally Day, with the Freshman in white, Sophomores repping their new color yellow, Juniors in black, and the Seniors in red.
On top of all of the in school dress up days, there were many events that took place after school as well. Battle of the classes was on Monday, October 13th and Pizza Wars took place on Wednesday, October 15th. These were all opportunities for students to show their school spirit and get involved in their school community.
With this being the freshman’s first Hammond spirit week they are excited about the years to come. Freshman Colette Call said, “spirit days made me feel excited about the Hammond Community! It’s fun to connect with people you don’t even know through school spirit!” Another freshman Elena Hamilton said, “spirit days made me feel like a real part of Hammond! I love how everyone participates and goes all out. It makes the community feel more connected!”
In addition to the excited new freshman there are Seniors that are just as excited for this year’s spirit week. Senior Katie Lindenmann said, “I’m sad that this is my last spirit week but we’re ready to go all out for our Senior year and show everyone that we’re the best class!” And the Seniors swept at Battle of the Classes in addition to winning both the murals and the hallway decorating competitions. However the Sophomores stunned with their win Pizza Wars, with the Seniors being a close second. The Juniors topped over the other grades with their bead buying to win 1st place. Regardless of not winning a competition, the Freshman had a very successful first spirit week and there is no doubt that they will continue to show out in years to come.
Overall, 2025 Hammond Spirit Week was a week filled with school spirit and community, embodying the true essence of Hammond. Dress-Up days had high participation and healthy competition, fueled by each grade’s desire to win. Although this year has come to a close, the Hammond community is continuing to grow closer than ever.
